What to go with a 4 Ton or 5 Ton? when your old system had mismatched equipment

My old unit lasted 20 RIP lol.... The outside unit was a 4 Ton and the A/H was a 5 Ton. I guess back then they did that for efficiency. So my question is do I go with a 5 Ton in and out since I am use to a 5 Ton A/H or do I go with a 4 Ton which fits the 2100 sqft that I have?

I've had a few contractors tell me to not go with a 5 ton bc it will mess up my duct system and cause humidity issues...... but is that true when your AH was already a 5 Ton? In my mind if the A/H is what pushes the air then shouldn't a 5 ton be fine for both. This is my first time replacing a system so I am trying to learn while sweating bc its broke.

Help! - Single girl trying to not get taking advantage of. I already know the specs I want for the $2000 tax credit. I live in FL too.

Thanks!!

** Forgot to Mention: its a Heat Pump - Split system
Has anyone done this on the new systems. I know back in the day they did this to have better efficiency but not sure what to do and I need to order my new units this week.
4 ton for 2000 sq foot is plenty in Florida. In Indiana it would be 3 ton and we have 90 in July August and humid.Get AHRI match system for tax credit. 4 ton is good
They are having issues as is THERE are No units that match the new Seer2 ratings for the tax credit for Rheem or Ruud. I think Im out of luck and just going to not get the $2000 tax credit
Just so you know, bigger is not better. Even a 4 ton unit in a 2,000 ft2 home is over sized unless you have poor windows and poor insulation. What bigger does is cool faster but does not pull the humidity out. Smaller pulls the humidity out by takes longer to get to temperature. As for the SEER2 rating - all of us Pros could only wish they would leave our field alone. All these things they do to increase efficiency rarely has a payback. In my case, a new AC at wholesale would still take me 30 to 40 years to pay back the savings. But then I am in Wisconsin, not in a Southern State. Make sure you have more than one company look into it. If they are telling you your system can not be repaired because R22 freon is banned, go to another contractor. R438a is a drop in and replaces R22 with no modifications. So some companies scare you but do not tell you the real facts. Then as for 20 year old unit, mine is from 1980, and last year I repaired a 30 ton unit from 1967. If you maintain it, age has no factor here. Good Luck.
