What capacitor do I need.

I have an old Ruud and the compressor was replaced a few years ago. The cap went bad today and I noticed it's the cap I replace for the old compressor so I want to make sure to replace it with one that matches the new compressor. I can't find what it needs anywhere. The capacitor that failed was a 40mfd so I ordered a 40/10 for now to take care of the fan as well but I can't verify that the compressor takes a 40mfd. It's an alliance compressors model ssr036b1rpa. Is there some trick to looking up this info?

When you put the 40 MF in, does the compressor start up OK? A 40 sounds right, as I do not have access to that compressor info. If you think it is a concern, then you can put a hard start kit on it. If it ramps to speed quickly, chances are the 40 is OK. The 10 is used on the condenser fan motor. You would need to look at the name plate of the fan motor to see what it requires.

I ended up using a 45/10 as they are more common and cheap. I know for sure the fan takes 10 as I replaced it. I was just unsure of the compressor as I could find no info. The one on there was 40mfd I replaced long before the compressor was replaced. They should have replace the cap with the new compressor but it wasn't done. It draws a little more current now on 45 but starts and runs fine. It also ran on a 40/15 I borrowed from a wall unit until the new cap came but that cap measured only 36mfd so I need to replace that too. I'd like to confirm what the right value is though.
