Looking for some help sizing the a return air vent in my basement. I am currently in the process of finishing my basement and I am looking to run a return air vent to the floor in my 2x4 walls. Wondering what size duct and vent I should be using? There is currently a return air vent on the main trunk, located on the ceiling of the basement that will be closed into a mechanical room. I plan on closing this up when the new return air vent is added. Here is some more info for detail. Thanks!
  • Basement is 500 sq/ft
  • 4 supply vents currently installed (6" duct 10"x 6" vents)
  • Home is 1700 sq/ft without basement with cold air returns in every room
Would appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

Since basement is not same as upstairs and temperature usually stays same and not fluctuating like upstairs you want just remove back pressure from it. 8” round pipe will do it
