Re: What are the best HVAC Blogs?

Well, we are a HVAC Contractor that has a blog. Does that count?

http://www.atomicfueloil.com

We write about our heating and diesel fuel services that we offer to Queens, NY and the surrounding New York City Metro Area.

Re: What are the best HVAC Blogs?

You can definitely find some success on Google+ and following other HVAC professionals especially if they have an active social circle and frequently post stuff worth reading. Also, following specific companies like Lennox or Mitsubishi could link you up with other HVAC professionals who have active blogs or meetups.

We try to keep our blog as active as possible but a lot of our stuff is more contractor/DIY tip based. You might find it to be a good read: http://www.americanairheatingco.com/blogs/

Re: What are the best HVAC Blogs?

Might be a bit late to this, but I'm creating a website MyHVACcertification to help newer candidates enter the HVAC field as well as providing tips in regards to marketing branding, which is what my background is in.

If you're able and interested, I'd greatly appreciate feedback to help make this the most thorough and beneficial tool for new HVAC techs. Thank you!

While it is good to have a blog, many HVAC contrators, and really, local business owners, are misled when it comes to SEO and blogs. Just because you have a blog doesn't mean you're going to rank well. Just because you put out content, doesn't mean you're going to rank well.

You hear people say get a blog if you want to rank well on Google because blogs tend to attract backlinks. And backlinks are what moves the needle for your ranking. However, what they're not telling you is that for local businesses, having a blog is close to useless. Yes, people do link to blogs but not local business blogs. Why? Because there's not a lot of useful, interesting content that local businesses can promote. And the people who are interested in that content (homeowners) don't normally have a web property they can use to link to you.

Internet marketing blogs, for instance, do get a lot of backlinks because their audience is full of other people with websites (they're in internet marketing after all). So, yes, those people get a lot of backlinks because their audience is huge (national/international appeal) and because their audience is optimized (have websites/are webmasters). You're a local business with a vastly smaller audience (local) whose audience is not optimized (normally do not have websites/are not webmasters). You could write about HVAC things that appeal on a national/international level but even then, your audience that cares about that is small and probably unoptimized.

My point is don't blog just for blogging sake. Know what you're investing time in and why. Blogging can help local businesses but not in the way you think or are being told and because of that, your blog strategy has to be different and in many cases, most local businesses should not be doing a blog at all.

Again, just know what you're doing and why.
