Re: Luck With Google Adwords?

Adwords work great for me.
The main issues to consider - pick a niche (some particular brand to serve, geographical location or region) and related keywords. Choose cheaper keywords. "HVAC professionals, more for less" is no-go because of high competition and high keyword prices.
"Bosch Gas Tankless Water Heater service" sounds better. No competition in adwords, low cost keywords.
Make a list of similar ads relating different brands and adwords will bring you good customers. Do not forget to mention price per hour - it makes customer to feel safer calling.

Re: Luck With Google Adwords?

The trick with Adwords is YOUR site. Your site is going to determine the click price you pay, it's going to determine the conversion ratio of the traffic you send to it. So, before you start an Adwords campaign, make sure your site is up to snuff to convert the traffic into leads and then into paying customers or clients. Hope that helps!

Re: Luck With Google Adwords?

It might be a better option to optimize your site for local traffic. ex. "plumber in xyz city", it might require a high investment upfront but will probably pay off since the traffic will be free (organic) and no pay per click charges.

Re: Luck With Google Adwords?

So I have learned all the lessons the hard way... You can spend a fortune quick if you do not know what you are doing... Trust me I know... I have been through five different adwords guys before I decided take the time to educate myself so I know if I am being ripped off... Some guys charge you a percentage and some a flat rate... Most of them rely on you not knowing what they are doing... Google has a ton of videos on what to do and basic to advanced info... Take a couple of weeks and soak in all of this info... It is the best thing you can do for your company... Adwords is a great way to get leads but you need to also spend the money on your website and making the content relate to your Adwords campaign... Feel free to shoot me a PM and I can help with any questions or referrals to people who wont take your $$$.

FloridaHVAC is right. One the content of your site needs to be relevant to your ads. Second, make sure the ad is linking to a relevant landing page and not necessarily just your home page. It is very easy to throw money down the drain if you're not monitoring the campaign. There's plenty of resources out there that is informative and valuable. Good luck!

For contractors, Adwords can be very beneficial, if done right.

Targeting locally is a great idea! It's much easier and lesser competition if you ask me.

Some really good books on SEO and Adwords are the Dummies books. THey give you an overview of how to optimize your site and how to partner Adwords with it to get the most bang for your buck. I would definately recommend these two books to give yourself some background. Read the SEO book first.

If properly managed, PPC can be fantastic (second only to SEO in terms of online strategies). You have to accurately track everything (including which keywords generate which phone leads) AND bid on economics NOT ego.

I have several HVAC contractors that will serve as testimonials for AdWords. Private message me and I'll connect you with them.

Re: Luck With Google Adwords?

I agree, it all starts with a good website and SEO. AdWords can be fantastic but you have to be willing to invest the necessary time to learn, track your results and adapt.

It is also important to exploit other online marketing platforms, for instance social medias and business directories, and to stay up-to-date with what's new. HVAC-connect.com is a good example, you can add your company for free. And on new websites, the cost of marketing is generally lower. Having your listing featured on top on HVAC-connect.com for a whole year, for instance, can be covered by profits made on one extra call only. That's just one example, in the end it's all about return on investment.

Good Website + SEO + Social Medias + Business Directories + AdWords can be a very powerful strategy if well implemented and followed continuously. Spending money on AdWords alone could cost you a lot without great return on investment.

This is true. Adwords is a beast. It can be one of your best sources of income or a colossal waste of money. It may be too much to ask of most HVAC contractors to know enough about Adwords to manage their own campaigns. There are so many moving parts and moist contractors need to spending their time managing their business or overseeing installations or changes outs (all the work the Adwords campaign is hopefully generating).

The answer is to just find a good consultant. I would suggest to ask them the following:

1) How long has the consultant been managing Adwords campaigns?
2) How many clients does he/she have?
3) Are they familiar with the HVAC business?
4) What results from other campaigns can they show you? Conversion rates, click-through rates.
5) Are they Adwords certified by Google?
6) Do they have a deep understanding and experience with Analytics?

It comes down to this:
An Adwords specialist must know how to integrate effective ads with strong landing pages that have high converting calls-to-action (phone calls or other contacts), all of which must undergo extensive A/B testing and continually improved by making actionable improvements from the data derived by the campaign's analytics...whew!

Probably the best post I've read by a contractor.

Educate yourself before you buy.

Re: Luck With Google Adwords?

Adwords is definitely worthwhile... when done properly. If you don't know how to do it yourself, definitely look into hiring an expert. Campaigns should be monitored and adjusted regularly for the best results.
