Re: Anyone dealing with some non-paying customers?

Ran a call from new Real Estate Broker, system down house rented. Heat pump was a mound of ice so bad I needed an ax to clear it( gutter above dripped on it for ever). I was stupid enough to clear the ice access the unit and find a bad board. When I called the agent I was told I would have to bill the Homeowner on the west coast. I left and monthly I send the Hunde a bill with more and more interest applied.

My wife ran across a plumber 2 days ago that asked about me and she told him not to use that real estate agency. He had the same problem and still accepts calls from her and waits for the homeowner.

Part of the Masters License should be "How to Make a Profit"

Want a service call MrMs. Real Estate? Fine give me the credit card number to pre-run thru P.Pal, or whoever you use. Card good, then run the call assess the damages, get a signed work order then do the repairs. No more work done for these people or the absentee owner without a work order and money up front. Im better off watching Jerry or Cops or even MMouse Club than working for nothing, costs me less.

Yeah I make them pay when the work is done... I make sure they are clear on payment expectation before we start the work... There are a couple that bounce checks but I work out payment with them and it is not really a problem...

Re: Anyone dealing with some non-paying customers?

We work with a number of HVAC companies (of varying sizes). Those that do residential work always require payment upon completion and, as a result, have no problem getting paid. Those that do commercial work are facing greater challenges - particularly with certain types of jobs (some were mentioned in earlier posts).

Hope things get better for you - financing other peoples' businesses sucks.

Re: Anyone dealing with some non-paying customers?

I have had success with putting a lien on non-paying customers homes. 90% of the time if you threaten and start the lien process they will pay rather quickly. It also costs less than giving a collection agency the 10% - 20% Also if I have a customer that needs to pay in installments I make him or her write me all of the checks in advance. That way they can be held accountable for writing hot checks.

Re: Anyone dealing with some non-paying customers?

I hire a college student to due the past due collections but for bigger jobs I offer the customer financing options that is made for most credit types. It makes it easier for me to just get paid by the finance company and the one I use is terrific in getting most customers qualified.

Re: Anyone dealing with some non-paying customers?

On the Wholesaler/Distributor, Always Collect payment first before anything is even thought about being shipped/sold.

On the install side of things, Everything regarding payment, and what course of action to take if payment is neglected should be in print and made aware of. If the install is a pricey amount Collect no more than 1/3rd of the total cost to start the project and have the rest paid upon completion (make sure to note 1/3rd payment on the invoice paper work that customer signed). Train your techs (or make it a habit yourself) To Collect upon completion.

Re: Anyone dealing with some non-paying customers?

Just ask for payment to be paid upon completion or if you have payments of some sort and they fail to pay put them into collections
