4th of July thoughts
Despite how I feel our government is going too far toward Socialism, I am still grateful to be born into such a great nation as the United States. Reading through some statements made by famous people about what's great about America in today's Parade Magazine, one stands out for me.
Derek Jeter, a baseball player (I do not follow sports, so I would not have known this if not for the article), made a statement that pretty gives one of my favorite reasons for being an American; Quote:
Just one of my thoughts on this Independence Day weekend. |

It's all the one's we are letting in that have no intentions of becoming legal immigrants. They come here and get jobs w/o greencards or any type of paper work. Hell I even know of some illegals that have valid drivers licenses. They work like slaves for almost no pay. Just go to your local chinese food restuarant and interview the workers, I bet you anything that most of them cant speak english other than the words they were taught to use in the workplace. So , if they cant speak English how could they pass the test to become an American. besides why would they? Their boss usually takes care of them and they more or less belong to the boss like they are his slaves. Its out of control, our gov has been on auto pilot for way too many years and the American public is blind to the fact that they are ruining our country. Like you said its going the way of socialism and we all know how that worked for the USSR!

I agree with you. As for how they can pass a citizenship test, you do know that you can take the test in Spanish? No other non English language, just Spanish. My wife is from South Africa and we have been spending thousands of dollars and way too much time on her getting permanent residency and the necessary paperwork to be legal. She came here with a S.A. and an international drivers license but it still took months for her to get a regular NJ DL. The best type of illegal to be is a Mexican, you can get free medical care and way more welfare and benefits than a citizen. They have bankrupted several hospitals in LA and here in NJ. |

Well, my meds have me fairly stable for now, so I think I'll stick with the good things about America for the time being

Oh I love the USA and have taken an oath to uphold and defend the constitution, but I don't agree with some of the ways laws get changed to suit a specific group of people. I find that the ultimate form of political incorrectness. Last edited by mechanicalDvr; 07-08-2009 at 12:40 AM. |

I dont have a problem with the citizen test being available in any laguage that should be an option for all foriegn immigrants. But I also believe that there should be some type of requirement that all Immigrants learn to speak the national language, English (not Spanish) LOL

If they offered the test in multiple languages fine but, not just Spanish. My grandparents and parents came here and had to learn the language or fail to communicate. They learned it and became successful in business. I grew up speaking three languages at home and English was the one stressed the most. Of the 127 grandchildren on my mom's side of the family, we have all been productive patriotic Americans. |

Re: 4th of July thoughts
I'm with you on this one. A law is supposed to be a law for all, so why do we need to have specific laws for only certain types of people?

Where does that fact come from? I think the first whites in North America were speaking Norweigan or Mongol, depends on which you believe was here first. I believe the discovery of Viking villages in Canada gives it to them. |

Re: 4th of July thoughtsQuote:
I second that, I was taught that a Viking explorer named Amerigo Vespuchi (spelling may be off) was actually the first to discover North America long before the spanish explorer who went by the name Christopher Columbus. And actually only discovered FLA. and South America.Besides America has always been an English speaking nation. The Declaration Of Independence and The Bill Of Rights were not written in Spanish ![]() And by the way Im not prejudiced I am 50% hispanic, I don't speak Spanish because I was born and raised in America and taught only to speak English. If people coming here dont want to learn our language then they shouldnt be coming here!

Re: 4th of July thoughtsQuote:
I agree with all of that except that Amerigo Vespuchi was a Sicilian sailing for the Queen of Italy and I don't think Columbus ever hit land north of the Bahamas. My parents and grandparents spoke only English outside the house. |

Re: 4th of July thoughtsQuote:
As the French learned during the times of Marie Antoinette the powers that be can only be politically correct in their desires when he peasants allow them that option. Am unarmed populous is a dictatorship, with one exception. Scotland is the only nation in history that has never been defeated in an armed conflict, that is what brought about the new name of Britain in 1770 when the English couldn't defeat them and signed a treaty instead. |
