Believe it or not it's pretty hard to define what a blog actually is. Originally blogs were very small sites where one individual would create an online journal or web log (which is where we get the word "Blog") documenting their daily lives or topics that interested them. As time went on some blogs got to be very large and essentially turned into online publications with multiple writers covering all sorts of topics. So when we started to look at adding features to HVAC Site and Blogs came up we really had to sit down and figure out what we wanted our version of a blog to be.
Our version of blogs is a little different than most. For us, blogs are a place where members can post on-topic thoughts, progress reports, and news for other members to read and comment on. We aren't going to allow off-topic discussion to take over blogs but we also aren't going to turn it into an articles section where editors control the content.
So, how are blogs different than the forum then? Well, let's see if we can define it a little better. Blogs are a one way conversation where a poster tells people about something then everyone adds their comments. Forums are a two way conversation.
I think you'll see some cross over but I hope as time goes on it will become clearer and clearer what blogs are for. We've added some cool features too like Series which help group posts together so you can document a project (for example) over a long period of time.
Well, hopefully my definition made sense to you. If not feel free to ask questions below and I'll try to nail it down a little better. Thanks!
